Our story begins in 2010 as two divorced archaeologists in California, one in Northern California and the other in Southern California. Although we each had been working in the field for several years (a small community), we had never seen each other before.

We met at the Society for California Archaeology Annual Meeting conference in Riverside. Introduced through a mutual friend one night, we got to know each other by talking and walking through the extensive grounds of the historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa.

The Inn is a beautiful Spanish Mission-style architectural wonder where ‘rich history and classic elegance exist in perfect balance with contemporary luxury and comfort’ – just like us (haha!). In operation since 1876, it is a place where the outside world is left behind and evokes the romance and enchantment of a European castle…the perfect setting for two people to fall in love.

For a short while it was a long-distance love situation, but within a year this happy couple was living together in the Monterey Bay area, working in archaeology, rescuing animals, and enjoying beautiful Central California.

After many years we moved back East to be closer to our families in Florida and Virginia. We got engaged beneath the beautiful Art Nouveau archway to Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT.
